Frederik (VI) & Carl
Waxbusts by J.E. Bauert, the boys are approximately 3 years old. Encouraged by J.F. Struense, Queen Caroline Mathilde had her son the crown prince raised by modern more liberal ideals, inspired among others by Rosseau. Thus Frederik, a child of the people, had a playmate called Carl. After the coup d’ etat in 1772, which resulted in the dethronement and baninshing af the queen and the beheading of Struense, the playmate Carl was rejected and sent to Vajsenshuset, an institution for orphaned children, where he died from chickenpox. The royal treasury, however ironically, did pay for the funeral.
