Counterweights

Bronze counterweights, dated 1648. The older absolute monarchy witnessed many centralisation projects, including the development of standardised weights and measures for the whole country. Following Ole Rømer’s return from Paris in 1681, Christian V entrusted him with the task of developing these. The original ‘national prototypes’ were handed over to the king in 1684/84, and are seen in this room.

The Royal Statutes

The Royal Statutes, was the constitution of the Danish absolute monarchy 1665-1849, in a silver case with Frederik III's monogram.

Eclipsarium

Eclipsarium. Designed by Ole Rømer to calculate the Moon's orbit and eclipses. Made in Paris 1678-1679 by Isaac Thuret, royal clockmaker.

Planetarium

Planetarium. Designed by Ole Rømer to demonstrate the orbit of the planets around the Sun. Made in Paris 1678-1679 by Isaac Thuret, royal clockmaker.

Chr. V presiding

Christian V presiding over the Supreme Court, presumably painted in 1697. The picture hangs in its original place.

Charlotte Amalie

Charlotte Amalie became the Queen of Denmark in 1670. She was the daughter of Landgrave William VI of Hesse-Kassel. In 1667 she was married to Christian (V); as well as other children they had Frederik (IV).

Christian V

Christian V was the King of Denmark-Norway from 1670; son of Frederik III and Sophie Amalie of Brunswick-Lüneburg. He was married to Charlotte Amalie of Hesse-Kassel in 1667. He was the father of Frederik IV.
