Anna Sophie, 1725
Portrait of Queen Anna Sophie, alledgedly painted by J.S. du Wahl.
Her marriage to Frederik IV was initially only a morganatic marriage, or a so-called left-handed marriage, where the King was already officially married to Queen Louise. She caught his eyes at the age of 18 in 1711, and not long after their first encounter, she eloped and they got married.
The day after Queen Louise´s funeral, in 1721, Frederik IV was officially married to Anna Sophie making her the first ever queen to have had anything other than royal heritage. Almost immediately after Frederik IV´s death she was banished from Copenhagen by her own stepson the succeding King Christian VI.
