Amber Jewellery Case

Case with carved amber warriors and ivory reliefs of, among other things, pastoral scenes. Possibly identical to a case worth 800 rix-dollars, which the newly-wed Crown Princess Louise received as a Christmas present in 1695. In general, works in amber are rarely signed, and receipts have only been preserved for royal gifts. This makes it difficult to assign the objects to specific artists or to a specific place.

Jewel cabinet of ebony and ivory, inlaid with Florentine mosaic; made in Augsburg, c. 1650, probably by Melchior Baumgartner.

Jewel box of gilt silver

Jewel box of gilt silver, ornamented with about two thousand small diamonds. The box was made in Augsburg, c. 1680. Supposedly a present from the subsequent Queen Anne of England, to her mother-in-law, Queen Sophie Amalie.

From 1675 to 1679 the Scanian War was fought with Sweden. But the final goal, to win back Scania, was not reached as no European state would allow both sides of Øresund to be ruled by the same power again.
