Golden Bible
This Bible bound in gold was a wedding present to Crown Prince Frederik (VIII) and Crown Princess Lovisa. It was made in 1866 of gold, gilded metal, silver, ivory, leather, and velvet.
The wedding present to the Crown Couple was from women in Northern Jutland. The unique, deluxe binding was made to order by the Royal Jeweller Michelsen. In a style typical of the time, the main motif on the cover is a crucified Christ with other traditional symbols such as the four Evangelists, as well as a cross, anchor, and heart (belief, hope, and love). The marital couple’s double monogram is also shown.
