Crown Prince Frederik, 1867
Portrait of the young Crown Prince Frederik (VIII), painted by Carl Bloch in 1867.
Here the Crown Prince is seen as he looked around the time when the study was furnished. Although a certain amount of beautification is normal in portraits of this type, the picture shows a handsome Crown Prince Frederik, who is indeed said to have had been attractive to women. At the time it could not be foreseen that his accession to the throne would have to wait another four decades, and the picture is evidence of a royal self-confidence, which is also very much to be seen in the masculine style of his interior decor.
