In this interview Thomas Kluge shares his thoughts on his new portrait and the process behind the creation of the work. Kluge also tells us about some of the challenges he has met in transforming an empty canvas into a story of the royal family that transcends the past, present and future.

All of the eight grandchildren are rendered and Kluge reveals his work with the figures and their role in the painting. The interview also sheds light on the composition of the painting, and the symbolic significance of some of the elements that form part of the scenery.
